East Village Homes for Sale

The East Village is bordered by the Gaslamp Quarter, Core and Cortez Hill districts to the west, Interstate 5 to the north and east, and San Diego Bay to the south. Boosted by the attraction of Petco Park, this district is San Diego's largest and most rapidly developing neighborhood.

It represents an eclectic mix of condominiums, apartments, office and retail space, artist lofts, studios, galleries, shops, and several wine bars. Former warehouses, even an old church, have been transformed into charming residential lofts. Scattered throughout the district are two colleges, San Diego City College and the New School of Architecture, augmenting this neighborhood's youthful, creative population. There are also two high schools, San Diego High School and Garfield High School. Development continues in the East Village which includes a new Main Library for the city. Also, a dramatic facelift is planned for Park Boulevard with a tree-lined promenade linking San Diego Bay to Balboa Park. Open space in the area includes Park at the Park, a dog friendly picnic area and neighborhood park bordering Petco Park. In the past, the East Village had suffered from deterioration, crime and homelessness before the Centre City Community Plan was implemented in 1992. Vast public improvements, social services, and commercial and residential developments have made over East Village, with an emphasis on its rich culture. A former warehouse district, the East Village still exhibits a old-world red brick charm with historic buildings scattered among newer developments.
